Buhari proceeds on leave, Osinbajo to act as President
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday sent a letter to the Nigerian Senate, intimating the lawmakers of his intention to proceed on a 10-day leave.
In the letter which was read by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki at the plenary, Buhari explained that, while he proceeds on leave, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo would be in acting capacity, as the President.
The letter reads partly: “I will be away on a 10-day working vacation as part of my 2017 annual leave from Monday, January 23 to Monday, February 6, 2017.
“While I am away, the Vice President performs the functions of my office. Please, accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
Meanwhile, the Presidency has explained that Buhari’s 10-day vacation is for medical check-ups.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in his twitter post few minutes after Buhari’s letter was read at the floor of the Senate, hinted that the President would be heading to the United Kingdom (UK) for the leave.
“PMB goes to UK today on short leave. He resumes on Feb 6. While away, he will do routine medical check-ups. VP Osinbajo acts as President,” Adesina said in his tweet.
