A middle-aged woman identified as Tricia Oterneghoro is in serious been arrested by the police in Benin, Edo State after she allegedly scalded her 13-year-old daughter, Joyce, by emptying a pot of hot soup on her.

ITV reports that Oterneghoro who was angry that her daughter had defied her orders and gone to spend the night in a neighbours room, poured the hot soup on the victim, burning her breasts and chest region in the process.
The victim said that she had to go and spend the night with her friend following an argument she had with her mother the previous night and the mother locked her out of their house.

But when she came back the following morning, her enraged mother punished her by pouring the hot soup on her.

Joyce explained that she wanted to go out and take her bath on Monday night but her mother refused.

“It was evening and I said I wanted to take my bath but my mummy said no. I went out to take my bath and my mummy locked the door.

After knocking many times, I went to sleep in my friend’s house. In the morning, my mummy came and poured hot soup on my body,” the victim narrated.

Residents in the area who rushed to administer first aid to the victim, were said to have poured invectives on the angry mother over the incident while some said they had cautioned Oterneghoro to stop maltreating her daughter but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

“A woman with correct sense will not do this to her daughter. I have warned her not to beat the girl again.

Her father called yesterday and the girl said she was interested in going to nursing school,” a neighbour said.

The suspect is said to be in police custody at the Oba Police Station while the police say she will be charged to court as soon investigations are concluded.
