Southern Kaduna: Military taskforce moves to end herdsmen attacks through cordon, search operations

The Operations Safe Haven (OPSH) responsible for the restoration of peace in Plateau, Bauchi and recently Kaduna States has assured residents of troubled communities in Southern Kaduna Senatorial District of it resolve to bring to an end herdsmen attacks, so it doesn’t spread to Plateau State.
The OPSH has also set up a strike force training base situated at Nimbia a border area between Kaduna and Plateau States.

Speaking to journalists, the Commander of OPSH, Major General Rogers Nicholas, said, “It has become imperative to intensify in the cordon and search operations considering the current security challenges facing the nation; we are however, crossing the borders, as a result of the incidents in Southern Kaduna, moving in to forestall a spill over into Plateau.
“We shall also be having an exercise in few months time tagged ‘Hartin kunama 2’ aimed at dealing with all the security challenges as it affects Southern Kaduna.
“Therefore, the training exercise in the camp in respect to Cordon and Search, is a build up towards the ‘Hartin’kunama 2”, the Commander reiterated.
The Army Chief, said an initial exercise was held in the North-East, tagged “Operation Alkaleri”, in December, 2016, by the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, adding that the operation was a fallout of the Sambisa forest, also aimed at dealing with all the security threats in the said general area.
Nicholas further explained that the Cordon and Search formation includes the outer and inner cordon of troubled areas, with a search party dispatched, as well as mounting of a road block, with the combination of Military and Police operatives propel through a robust intelligence report.
