Premier League: Chelsea go nine points clear at top, Watford shock Arsenal
Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points, despite a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
David Luiz gave the Blues the lead in the first half from a cleverly taken free-kick, before Georginio Wijnaldum headed the hosts level in the second half.
Antonio Conte’s men now have 56 points.
At the Emirates, Arsenal suffered a setback in their quest to win the title this season, after they lost 2-1 to Watford.
The Hornets were two goals up in the first 15 minutes, thanks to Yohan Kaboul and Troy Deeney, as the hosts struggled to get to grips with the match.
Alex Iwobi pulled one back for the Gunners in the second half, as they missed other chances to draw the game level.
Arsene Wenger’s men have now dropped to third place, behind Tottenham Hotspur on goals difference.
Spurs played out a goalless draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
In other matches, Burnley defeated Leicester City 1-0, Crystal Palace won 2-0 at Bournemouth, Middlesbrough were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom and Swansea continued their resurgence with a 2-1 home victory over Southampton.
