Remain in PDP we don’t want you, Enugu APC tells Ekweremadu

Contrary to the insistence of some members of the ruling party that for Ike Ekweremadu to retain his position as deputy Senate president he must join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Enugu State chapter of the party has said he will not be welcomed in the party.
Senator Marafa, an APC senator from Zamfara State had during Senate plenary on Wednesday told Ekweremadu, a Peoples Democratic Party senator and deputy Senate president representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, that unless he defects to APC, he was going to lose his position at the Senate.

His position was supported by another APC Senator, Abdullahi Adamu (APC, Nasarawa West), who also made the same demand that Ekweremadu either join APC or lose his position as the deputy Senate president.
The statement by the senators came on the heels of prediction by ousted Senate majority leader, Ali Ndume, who while expressing sadness over the way and manner he was voted out of his position, said that Ekweremadu could be next in line.
Marafa, in an interview published on Sunday, again insisted that Ekweremadu has the option of joining the APC or risking his position at the Senate.
However, Enugu State APC publicity secretary, Mrs Kate Offor, told newsmen in Enugu that the deputy Senate president will not be welcomed in the party, advising that he should remain with the PDP, which according to her, he contributed in “destroying”.
She said, “The deputy Senate president would be an unwelcome guest in Enugu State APC, should he decide to join the party. Whatever is the position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we want him (Ekweremadu) to remain in PDP.
“We wish to make it very clear that Ekweremadu is an unwanted guest in Enugu State APC. Let him stay and salvage the inferno festering in the PDP. We don’t want one party state”‘ she stated.
