Yes, the former (two-time) Bachelorette finalist and Bachelor in Paradise season three star admitted he was surprised by his new gig as ABC's most eligible man when he stopped by Good Morning America on Thursday morning. "At first I was like, 'Really? Come on!'" Nick admitted of his initial reaction when producers offered him the gig.

Given his track record within the franchise, the 35-year-old admitted he needed some time to weigh the pros and cons. "I was very nervous, but it took me a couple of days. I told them I had to think about it," he said. "I didn't have a lot of time to think about it because they didn't ask me too long ago. But it took me a couple of days."

Of course, the pros eventually outweighed the cons. (Duh.) "It's a huge responsibility, but it's obviously an amazing opportunity, so ultimately, I accepted," he explained.

Nick Viall, The Bachelor
ABC

After making it to the finale of both Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe's seasons of The Bachelorette, with both women accepting other men's marriage proposals, and not finding love with Jen Saviano on Bachelor in Paradise, Nick seemed cautiously optimistic about finding love as the Bachelor.

"There's a lot of expectations that come with it, and there's also no guarantee, right?" he said. "You just never know if you're going to connect with them, maybe you really like someone, who doesn't like you back." And when It was the same concern his friend Marcos Hernandez opened up to E! News about after Nick was named the next Bach, telling us, "Is he afraid of anything? I think it's obvious, he doesn't want to have his heart broken again."

But host Chris Harrison seemed confident about Nick's chances, telling E! News, "The good news with Nick is that it's worked. He's done his part, he's fallen in love twice with Andi and then with Kaitlyn, so I know he can get there, and now it's just a matter of let's put him in the right spot to succeed, and hopefully he will find someone that will reciprocate that love."

The Bachelor will return in 2017 on ABC.
